Since 2008, this local program assists Ripton residents with fuel assistance and home energy-saving equipment and assessment.
Firewood: Short-term emergency firewood is available while it lasts for Ripton residents behind the REAP woodshed next to the Ripton Fire Station at 25 Dugway Road. Limit your use to a few armfuls so that others in need can access this supply. If you need help getting the wood or if the supply is gone, please notify Mac Cox at 388-7820. Firewood delivery is also available to households who qualify for fuel assistance.
Fuel assistance: You may apply for assistance to purchase fuel oil or propane through HOPE (Help Overcome Poverty's Effects) at 388-3608 or call Mac Cox at 388-7820. If you have exhausted your state fuel assistance funds and will run out of fuel before the end of cold weather, call Mac Cox to see about a fuel oil, propane or firewood delivery.
PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) is a program with which a homeowner may pay for energy efficiency or renewable energy improvements via a long term loan that is billed and collected on the same schedule as their property tax.
Lend a hand: REAP organizes occasional volunteer events to cut, split, and move firewood.
REAP depends on volunteer work and donations. To contribute, make your check out to REAP/HOPE and send it to Mac Cox at P.O. Box 100, Ripton VT 05766. Your contributions are tax-deductible.
